  • Explore a City of Contrasts
  • Set out on a half-day walking tour with a private guide, exploring the heart of Oslo, the Norwegian capital. Walk the ramparts of the 13th century Akershus Fortress, medieval residence of the royals with a coastal view. Discover the city’s main street Karl Johans gate, rich with Oslo’s highlights, where you can admire the likes of the 19th century Royal Palace, and stroll part of the surrounding 54-acre public green space known as Palace Park, with its finely kept grounds. View the Parliament Building known as The Storting, see the 17th century Oslo Cathedral, admire some of the grandiose old university buildings, and venture over to Radhusplassen where you can view the Radhus, Oslo’s City Hall where the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony is held.

  • The Adventure Begins
  • This morning a picnic basket will be delivered to your hotel before you check-out. Your basket comes with sandwiches and salads made with a selection of seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients, fruit, and bottled water. Enjoy your packed picnic lunch on-the-go, or pull over wherever you find a nice spot.

    Please advise your destination expert in advance of any allergies or dietary restrictions.
  • Get ready to embark on a wonderful self-drive journey as you pick up your reserved rental vehicle from the rental center.
  • Depart on your self-drive journey from Oslo to Flam. The drive is approximately 194 miles (312 km), and will take 5 and a half hours without stops. Navigate the winding and scenic roads of the E16 highway, while taking in breathtaking views of mountain vistas and expansive forests. After about 2 and a half hours on the E16 you’ll reach the small village of Bagn. If you’re driving an electric vehicle, you might consider stopping here for a charge. About 5 minutes on the other side of town is Reini Stave Church, a well preserved timber church that dates back to the 13th century. What makes Reinli stave church unique is that it is the only preserved church in Norway with all original consecration crosses intact. After your break, take a slight detour back to Bagn and get on Rv7 and continue as it turns into Fv50, passing Hallingskarvet National Park on your left side. As you approach the first fjord of your trip, Aurlandsfjord, Fv50 turns into E16, leading you into the pleasant town of Flam.

  • Enjoy an included dinner this evening at Fretheim Hotel. The hotel restaurant, Arven, has a view looking straight toward the fjord, and locally-sourced ingredients is at the heart of its cuisine, which is only natural when some of the best producers of cheese, meat, fruits and vegetables are right outside the door!

  • Sights and Insights
  • Today meet your private guide and embark on a guided biking excursion, starting out with a ride on the famous Flam Railway 20km through the Flam Valley, and arrive 2845 feet above sea level where bikes are waiting for you. Enjoy expansive views and numerous waterfalls as you follow the river back down through the valley. Along the way make a stop at Rallarrosa Goat Farm where you can taste delicious locally sourced produce and meet the goats. Your excursion ends upon arrival back in Flam.  
  • Depart on your self-drive journey from Flam to Solvorn. The drive is approximately 53 miles (86 km), and will take about 2 hours without stops. Along the E16 and Rv5 highways, incredible mountain tops and vast forested landscapes set the scene for your drive. Consider stopping at the Stegastein lookout, overlooking the majestic Aurlandsfjord along the way, one of Norway’s most beautiful and picturesque fjords. Norway’s longest and deepest fjord Sognefjord is split into two regions, one of which is Aurlandsfjord. Featuring dramatic landscapes and traditional villages, Aurlandsfjord makes for one of the most beautiful and photographic stops en route to Solvorn. Continue on the E16 highway, passing through the Laerdal Tunnel, the longest road tunnel in the world. The Laerdal Tunnel provides the unique opportunity to experience the mountains of Norway from the outside, and the inside. This 15 mile stretch of highway features rock chambers that widen every 4 miles to allow for special lighting to illuminate the tunnel. Continue the drive and board a scenic ferry ride and cross the fjord before arriving in Solvorn.

  • Discover the incredible Lustrafjorden on a small group kayaking experience. The Lustrafjord and Luster area is known as one of the most beautiful regions of Norway, where the fjords connect to the areas many mountains, glaciers, and scenic landscapes. Meet your group and set out to paddle through the beautiful fjords and past expansive forests while searching for seals and porpoises gliding through the crystal clear waters. Stop a long the way for a break and enjoy an included packed lunch before continuing your kayaking excursion.

  • The Journey Continues…
  • Depart on your self-drive journey from Solvorn to Lofthus, with a stop in Voss along the way. The drive is approximately 130 miles (208 km), and will take just under 4 hours without stops. Taking the Rv55 highway, drive along the edge of the Sognefjord, known to locals as the King of the Fjords and the largest and deepest fjord in all of Norway. After an hour on the road, take the Hella-Vangsnes ferry for a scenic ride across the fjord to Vangsnes. Hop back on the Rv13 for the next 29 miles before taking the first exit on the roundabout towards the E16. Follow this route and stay on the E16 for the next 12 miles. At the next roundabout exit onto Rv13 and follow the Strandavegen all the way to Voss, or Vossevangen. The Voss Gondol gondola station will be on your right, just on the edge of town. Beginning at Voss Station, take the gondola to the top station Hangurstoppen, 820 metres above sea level for spectacular fjord and city views. The Gondola features 9 spacious cabins with capacity for 34 people and runs continuously, making it the perfect activity to enjoy at your leisure. At the top station, enjoy recreational areas, perfect for hiking, biking and even paragliding during the Summer months. In the Winter, the gondola offers access to the largest ski resort in Western Norway. If you haven't charged your electric vehicle yet today, now is a good time to do so before you depart Voss. Taking the Rv13 highway, drive through lush forests with incredible mountains silhouetted in the background. About 10 miles outside of Voss and just off the main road is Skjervsfossen waterfall. Make a short detour for this wonderful photo stop. Back on the Rv13, continue south for another 11 miles. Right before crossing Hardanger Suspension Bridge, at the first roundabout, take the 1st exit and stay on the Rv13 before crossing the bridge and continuing your drive South. The Hardanger Suspension Bridge is the longest suspension bridge in Norway and features incredible views over the fjord. After crossing, stay on the Rv13 for about 25 miles. This will lead directly to Hotel Ullensvang, which will be on your right-hand side, overlooking the water.

  • After picking up your packed lunch from the hotel, set off via your private rental vehicle for a self-guided hiking excursion. Discover magnificent views of the fjords in the high mountains of the Hardangerfjord region, known as one of Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway’s favorite mountain hikes. Queen Sonja was an avid and passionate hiker, and loved this route in Lofthus most of all, with it's picturesque lookouts and challenging terrain. Set out on your own and trek through forests, mountains and lush orchards on this demanding route, while following the dirt road up to Heng, 2461 feet above sea level with fantastic and expansive views. Stop at your leisure and enjoy an included packed lunch before continuing your hike on a steep descent towards Lofthus, following the trail marked with red T’s, before concluding your day back in town.
  • Enjoy an included dinner at Hotel Ullensvang tonight, overlooking the Hardangerfjord. The main focus at Restaurant Ullensvang is Norwegian produce with a distinctly international take. An ever-changing 3-course menu is available every night, with meat, fish or vegetarian options.

  • A Dazzling Drive
  • Depart on the last leg of your self-drive journey as you drive from Lofthus to Bergen. The drive is approximately 102 miles (163 km), and will take about 2.5 hours without stops. Backtrack North on the Rv13, crossing once more over the picturesque Hardanger Bridge. After crossing the bridge, continue to follow the Rv13 for 7 miles before taking a left onto the Fv7. Taking the Fv7, pass through the quaint towns of Oystese and Norheimsund en route while still enjoying the incredible views of the fjord to your left. If your electric vehicle needs a charge, consider stopping at Norheimsund for some peace of mind and a chance to take in the stunning, one of Norway’s most visited and photographed waterfalls. After enjoying the falls, hop back on the Rv7 for approximately 30 miles before taking the 1st exit at the roundabout onto the E16. As you approach Bergen, turn left onto Fv580 and follow the signs for Bergen Flesland Airport. If you're driving a gas-powered vehicle, be sure to fill up the tank before you hand over the keys. E-vehicle drivers will want to return their vehicle with a full charge.

  • Secrets of the City
  • Depart your hotel on foot alongside your private guide, setting out on a highlights walking tour of the colorful city of Bergen. You'll stroll through the old wharf area known as Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site revered for its Hanseatic commercial buildings, a nod to Bergen's former importance in the 14th-16th century Hanseatic League empire. Visit the town's traditional fish market, a lively and oddly picturesque area where the local catch has been traded for over 800 years. Discover small wooden houses from the 18th and 19th century, tucked away on charming streets and narrow alleyways, and enjoy a round-trip ride on the Floibanen funicular railway to the top of Mount Floyen, offering magnificent views of the city below.
  • Enjoy a gorgeous, half-hour boat ride from Bergen’s harbor through the archipelago and out to tiny Holmen Island, where you'll arrive to one of Norway’s best restaurants, Cornelius Seafood Restaurant, for an included 5-course dinner. On arrival, a delicious welcome drink will be provided, along with a short shellfish demonstration at the RaBar. Cherish the spectacular views of the fjord, mountains, rocky islands and passing boats and ships as you dine on your delicious meal. Inspired by the weather and the catch of the day, Cornelius serves its famous Meteorological Menu of exquisite seafood and trimmings, prepared using innovative culinary techniques and with a genuine passion for seafood. Open all year round, the restaurant creates a unique ambiance, with open air dining and lighter dishes in the summers, and a cozy fireplace and stronger flavors in the winters. After your meal, board the boat for your return back to Bergen's harbor.
