Mexico is a popular spring destination for fun-loving and free-spirited people. Cancun is one of the best cities studded with a long stretch of pristine shores, high-end resorts, and exciting nightlife. However, Cancun has a lot more to offer than its velvety beaches.

The city is blessed with natural wonders and ancient Mayan ruins guarding their sacred heritage. The outskirts of the city have much to explore and the underwater gems are also plentiful.

Here are the best things to do in Cancun, Mexico this spring.

The Fascinating Underwater World of Cancun

You’ll find truly captivating and diverse coral reefs in Cancun and an underwater museum to blow your mind. Its sparkling azure beaches hide underwater heaven for deep-sea divers and snorkelers. Divers will be delighted to discover psychedelic coral gardens while they swim next to the friendly manta rays and playful dolphins. The Caribbean seas also have plenty of sea turtles and exotic underwater plants.

Once you are done exploring the best of the underwater adventures, you will be blessed with breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea.

Explore the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza

One of the most well-preserved and incredibly beautiful Mayan ruins in the world is nestled in Chichen Itza in Mexico. This prestigious location is only at a 2-hour drive from Cancun and is well worth your time.

The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sprawling over several acres of land, the ruins include an imposing pyramid structure – the Temple of Kukulkan. It is used for religious and astronomical purposes. Other hidden gems in the area include the Temple of Warriors, the Observatory, and the Great Ball Court.

Underground Cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula

The Yucatan Peninsula has a myriad of underground cenotes with natural pools of sparkly clear water. These distinct geological structures are often surrounded by rich vegetation, making it another great place in Cancun for snorkelers and deep-sea divers.

Ruta De Cenotes have the best cenotes near Cancun. The one that stands out the most is La Noria. With a jumping platform, rope swings, milky blue waters, and scenic cave stalactites hanging from the roof, it is a treat for the eyes.

Other noteworthy cenotes include Cenote Ojo de Agua, Cenote Sol & Luna, Verde Lucero, and Cenote Boca de Puma. Some have open-air cenotes as well with ziplining adventures and views of the jungle with rescued spider monkeys.
